The lithograph, an example of the planographic process, is produced by using either a thick slab of Bavarian limestone or an aluminum plate. The artist works on a flat surface on which a drawing is made using materials such as litho crayons and pencils and/or liquid tuche. The process is based on the fact that oil and water don't mix and the oil based printing ink will adhere to the greasy drawing materials. The drawing is inked with a soft brayer while the plate is kept wet. This deposits a thin layer of ink on the plate so the image can be transferred to the paper. Included in the exhibition are 30 lithographs, both black/white and color. Rental Fee: $500 Plus Shipping All content copyright 2002 The Print Consortium. |
